Looking to buy fireworks? Here's where to find them this year in Topeka and Shawnee County
Fireworks fans this year have an increased number of places to purchase pyrotechnics in Topeka and Shawnee County.
Vendors are licensed to sell fireworks at 52 sites, up from 50 last year, according to listings recently provided to The Capital-Journal by Topeka city clerk Brenda Younger and Shawnee County public information officer Amanda Monhollon.
Fireworks will be available for purchase at 39 tents and 13 buildings. All of the latter are outside Topeka city limits.
The 52 sites isn't a record. At times, the number of fireworks sales locations in Topeka and Shawnee County has been more than 60.
When can I buy fireworks? When may I shoot them?
Within Topeka city limits, fireworks may be sold from June 29 through July 4, according to Topeka city code.
They may be discharged only from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. July 3 and 10 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. July 4.
In unincorporated parts of Shawnee County outside Topeka, fireworks may be sold from June 27 to July 5 and discharged from 8 a.m. to midnight from June 27 to July 4.
