Looking to spice up weekend brunch? This new downtown cantina is the spot

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — For those looking to add some spice to weekend brunch in San Diego, a happening spot in downtown is launching a new service ahead of Labor Day.

Also just in time for football season, Hasta Ma?ana Cantina in the Gaslamp Quarter will now be offering weekend brunch service on Saturdays and Sundays from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., a representative for the restaurant confirmed.

The cantina is known to boast flavors inspired by Baja California. Now, Executive Chef Kevin Templeton, who’s known locally for his years of experience with the popular restaurant barleymash, is extending those flavors with his new brunch menu.

Chef Templeton, who was previously named a Food Network “CHOPPED” champion, said he created the menu with the help of his team. Here’s a look a look at the spiced up new offerings for San Diego brunch-goers:

  • Chilaquiles Rojo: Guacamole, pickled onion, chipotle sour cream, cotija, fried eggs ($15); add rojo beef, amarillo pork or verde chicken ($5)

  • Machaca Burrito: Slow braised rojo beef, scrambled eggs, salsa Fresca, mixed cheese and breakfast potatoes ($16)

  • Steak & Eggs: Prime sirloin steak, breakfast potatoes, fried eggs, ancho hollandaise and jalapeno-jack biscuit ($22)

  • The Gringo Plate: Thick cut bacon, fried eggs, breakfast potatoes and jalapeno-jack biscuit ($18)

  • Concha French Toast: Pan dulce, crème anglaise, strawberries, mango and house made vanilla syrup ($16)

  • Mini Buttermilk Pancakes: Canela (cinnamon) whipped cream, strawberries, crème anglaise,  whipped butter and house made vanilla syrup ($15)
