Lucy Hale remembers her grandma with a new tattoo
Lucy Hale is no stranger to getting inked, but her latest tattoo might be her most meaningful one yet. The Pretty Little Liars star shared a photo of her new tattoo on Instagram Saturday, and it honors her relationships with her sister and their grandmother.
“After years of wanting our grandmothers writing, we did it,” Hale wrote in her Instagram caption. “Our Grammy was our favorite person & now she’s even more a part of us. Also, my sister is a badass who raises two kids, teaches combat classes AND goes on tattoo runs with her baby sister.”

The ladies got the words “I love you” tattooed on their left arms, and the script is apparently in their late grandmother’s handwriting. The tattoos are a way to show their bond of sisterhood, as well as to honor their grandmother’s legacy.
Hale has a number of tattoos, many of which were done by L.A.-based tattoo artist Dr. Woo. In 2017, she told Refinery29 that her first tattoo was a bow on the back of her neck, done by Dr. Woo. She and the rest of the Pretty Little Liars cast also got their characters’ initials tattooed on their pointer fingers to commemorate the end of the show in 2016. The actor also has tattoos of a lightbulb, a C.S. Lewis quote, a Bible quote, an elephant, a moon, and an evil eye.

The new “I love you” script isn’t the only matching tattoo Hale and her sister have, either. Hale told Refinery29 that she and her sister also have the same tattoo of a sun — and that one, too, is in honor of their grandmother.
“I have a little, tiny sun that I got with my sister in honor of our grandmother. Then one under my boob that says ‘Courage to your heart,’ which is a C.S. Lewis quote,” Hale told Refinery29 last year. “I have a moon I got recently, no meaning, I just wanted it. Then I have a Bible quote. And I have an eye that Dr. Woo just did. It’s the evil eye to ward off evil. I like tattoos.”
Tattoos don’t have to have a deeper meaning for their wearers. But they can also be reminders of certain people or experiences, and Hale’s newest ink definitely fits into that category. She and her sister clearly have a great love for their grandmother, and thanks to their new tattoos, she’ll be with them wherever they go.
