The arts-based Lucy School said Tuesday that it will launch Destination Imagination at the school, an international after-school program focused on science, technology, engineering, arts and math.

The program is open to the community and is intended for students in kindergarten through eighth grade. The program runs from September to March, and the cost is $900 per student.

Destination Imagination is a nonprofit organization that offers project-based programs and problem-solving competitions related to STEM subjects for students, according to the organization’s website.

Lucy School’s Destination Imagination program will be divided into two teams — kindergarten through third grade and fourth through eighth grade. The students will attend weekly practice sessions to prepare for a regional tournament at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, in early March.

The Destination Imagination program challenges students to creatively solve problems on their own.

“This program empowers students to be creative thinkers and problem-solvers,” Head of School Dan Buck said in a press release. “It’s about giving them the tools to succeed in whatever path they choose.”

Buck has led Destination Imagination programs in other schools around the world, including in Turkey, Poland and Brazil, according to the press release.

Spaces for the program are limited, and registration is required.
