Lupita Nyong'o Pens Touching Tribute to Chadwick Boseman on 3rd Anniversary of His Death
Lupita Nyong'o is remembering her former co-star, the late Chadwick Boseman, three years after his passing with a poignant post shared on social media.
Earlier today, the Us actress shared a black and white photo she took of Boseman about five years ago while traveling in Seoul, the capital of South Korea, presumably for a press tour ahead of the Feb. 2018 release of Marvel's Black Panther film in which they both starred.
"Three years ago today, I experienced a singular pain at the news of @chadwickboseman's death," the 40-year-old movie star began in the caption of her Aug. 28 Instagram post. "The confusion was so profound that it took months to trust the feeling of joy again."
"This is a photo I took on film at the airport as we arrived in South Korea in 2018," Nyong'o explained, adding, "We had just learned to do the baby heart with our fingers. Here Chadwick was adding his suave flare ??."
Nyong'o continued, fondly recalling the trip and her friendship with Boseman, "We spent a glorious 72 hours there, and the memory fills me with so much joy.
"Death is hard to understand, maybe even harder to accept," she admitted before concluding with an inspired lesson, "But the love generated from the life he lived will fuel every anniversary marking his absence. Chadwick may no longer be in our photos, but he will always be in our hearts."
Fellow Hollywood stars, including Kerry Washington, Elaine Welteroth, Mike Colter, and Katie Couric, honored Boseman's legacy with emojis and sweet messages of love in the comments.
"We miss him dearly. Sending you LOVE ??," wrote Washington, while Welteroth, Colter and Couric left heart and praise emojis.
Boseman died in August 2020 at the age of 43, following a four-year battle with colon cancer, leaving behind his wife, Taylor Simone Ledward.
