My Luxuries: Lewis Hamilton on starting a family, diamond bling and the sports car on his wishlist
The Formula One driver and IWC ambassador shares the luxuries he’d rather not live without…
How would you describe your style?
I’d say urban chic. I’m always on a plane or in a car, so it’s all about being comfortable – I wear a lot of tracksuits and hoodies. The materials are very important. I recently designed a range with Tommy Hilfiger using eco-friendly recycled fabrics, which feel amazing.
And when it comes to dressing up?
Tailoring is everything. I like wearing double-breasted jackets and suits by Dolce & Gabbana and Tommy Hilfiger. As a man it’s hard to stand out in black tie, so I’m always looking for unique colours, fabrics or details.
Finishing touches?
Jewellery: I love diamonds as much as women do. Most days I wear a Cartier trinity ring, some small diamond hoops and a chain.

Which watch is on your wishlist?
I have 50 or 60 watches that I’ve collected over the years, but one thing I don’t have is an IWC tourbillon. So I’ve got my eye on the IWC Da Vinci Tourbillon Rétrograde Chronograph.

Your dream drive?
Currently it’s a vintage black Mercedes SL300 soft-top. I’m lucky enough to be able to buy a lot of awesome cars, but I don’t own this one yet. I imagine driving it around Malibu when I retire – that’s my dream.
Favourite piece you own?
A crystal sculpture by Libensky and Brychtová. In general I’m into vintage furniture. I like to go to auctions to source pieces from the 1950s or 1970s.
Dream holiday destination?
Oahu, in the north of Hawaii, is my ideal holiday destination as I can surf and skydive on the same day. I can’t stand sitting still on holiday – I have to keep active.
What single thing would make your existence more luxurious?
I think right now, in the time of life that I’m in, the next thing would be a family. Having kids really would make life more luxurious for me.
