A New Luxury Resort is Opening in Mauritius — and It's Literally Paradise
Lying sleepily east of Madagascar in the Indian Ocean, Mauritius is one of the most beautiful islands in the world. Later this year, there will be a new resort on the island to match the natural beauty.
Anantara Hotels, Resorts & Spas is known for its luxurious hotels and resorts around the world — the brand was named one of Travel + Leisure’s Top 20 Hotel Brands in the World for 2018. With properties in tropical locations perched near turquoise waters, gold sand and lush green landscapes, Anantara is no stranger to beautiful islands and beaches. Now, the company is entering the scene in Mauritius with the opening of Anantara Mauritius Resort.
Set to open in September, Anantara’s first Mauritius resort will be near Blue Bay, a mostly undeveloped section of the remote island that the Bangkok-based company claims to be the “most beautiful part.” Blue Bay is also home to the best snorkeling and diving in Mauritius, thanks to vibrant coral reef.
Guests at the resort will find 164 rooms and suites when the property opens, with eight luxury two- and four-bedroom villas with swimming pools scheduled to open in 2020. A roughly 100-foot ozone-based (meaning no chlorine) swimming pool wraps around the property, with lounge chairs and rich greenery surrounding the space.
Drinks can be found at two bars on the property, one poolside and one with a beach view. Dining options include “a gastronomic experience rooted in an exotic blend of European, Asian and African influences” from an all-day restaurant, private dining options, and Sea.Fire.Salt, a beachfront gourmet grill and seafood restaurant.
And because no resort trip is complete with a spa day, Anantara Mauritius Resort will feature the properties signature Spa treatments that include indigenous therapies for complete relaxation and restoration.

Inspired by the history of the island nation and its colonial architecture, the resort was designed in collaboration between Australian-based Ground Kent Architects, Thai interior designers Abacus Design, and the Office of Global Architecture in Mauritius. Volcanic stone and driftwood, among others, bring natural elements of the island into the luxe resort.
Besides indulging in Anantara’s amenities and the pristine beaches, Mauritius offers plenty of experiences worth the journey. One worth venturing out for is the Seven Coloured Earths, a series of magical looking sand dunes formed in seven vibrant hues. Visitors can also spend a day floating over the turquoise waters on a catamaran, join a dolphin cruise, or head to Black River National Park for stunning views of the 272-foot Chamarel Waterfalls.
