I’m a Bag Lady, and This Smart Style From a Meghan Markle-Worn Brand Is My New Go-To

Eva Mendes and Emily Blunt are fans of the brand, too.
I don’t know how many bags I own because I’m too scared to count. It’s definitely more than 10, and maybe less than 30. (And that’s not even considering canvas totes.) Within my collection, though, there’s definitely one brand I reach for more than any other: Cuyana.
Cuyana is responsible for the effortlessly chic bags you often see gracing the shoulders of stars like Meghan Markle, Eva Mendes, Emily Blunt, and more. In fact, Markle is a longtime fan; not only has she been sporting the brand since 2019, but she even gave Cuyana bags filled with goodies away at her baby shower.
It’s no surprise, then, that I fell in love with the brand once I got my hands on its timeless Tall Easy Tote two years ago. While that’s essentially been my go-to bag since I unboxed it, Cuyana has done the unthinkable by designing an even more practical, and genuinely genius, bag that’s ousted the Easy Tote as my go-to. Meet the System Zipper Tote.

The Zippered System Tote is an updated version of the brand’s original System Tote; the new style features a zipper closure as well as updated interior pockets for small belongings like your phone, wallet, and keys. Designed with a fully customizable interior, the bag allows you to mix and match organizers like a laptop sleeve, flap bag, and zippered pouch (which are all sold separately and can function as standalone products without the bag). Essentially, with the purchase of the System Zipper Tote and all the accessories, you’ve got a four-in-one bag that’ll replace everything else in your collection. Like I said—genius.

Other than its smart features, the bag on its own is simply a good bag. Not only does it come in six gorgeous, vibrant shades (even the black stands out), but it’s quite roomy—I’ve squeezed in my laptop, several hardcover books, a makeup pouch, and wallet and still had space—and super comfortable to carry. It’s made with Cuyana’s signature pebbled leather; I know a lot of other brands claim their leather is soft, but I don’t think I’ve met a more supple bag. You can also snag it in two 13- or 16-inch sizes.
My favorite part of its design, however, are the straps. While that may sound like a small, maybe even unimportant, detail, think about how many bags you’ve owned that you would’ve loved more if the straps weren’t so annoying. The System Zipper Tote has flexible, U-shaped straps that stay snugly on your shoulder. They don’t fall, they don’t dig or scratch, and they don’t get in the way—you won’t even remember they’re there. Just how it should be.
While Cuyana’s System Zipper Tote clocks in at a cool $428 (and closer to $600 if you add an accessory to your cart, too), it’s the definition of a lifelong investment. I personally get so much use out of my Cuyana bags; in fact, when I eventually (and begrudgingly) downsize my bag collection, I know some of the only styles I’ll prioritize closet space for are from the brand. As a self-proclaimed bag lady, that’s saying a lot.
