Comfy and cool, literally.

If you saw the hottest movie of the year, Challengers, and were suddenly inspired to alter your entire wardrobe in an effort to dress like Zendaya, you’re not alone. I am suddenly all-in for tenniscore; tennis skirts and dresses to trick people into thinking I’m a lot more sporty than I really am is totally my summer 2024 vibe—and I think you’ll be obsessed, too.

If you’re not familiar with tenniscore, it’s really simple. As is the case with the ever-popular balletcore trend, which draws inspiration from, well, ballet and ballerinas, tenniscore is all about court-inspired style staples that can be worn to play tennis, but also IRL. Details quintessential to tennis attire, like pleats, stripes, court sneakers, and more are all fair game when it comes to tenniscore, and I’m overhauling my entire wardrobe to include the aforementioned staples—tennis racket not included. Sorry not sorry.

The thing I love most about tennis-focused fashion is that it’s an easy way to look put together yet remain comfortable when running errands or catching up with a friend—and all without the need to put on a “real outfit.” Think: pleated skirts, stretchy dresses, collared tops, and striped sweaters that are equal parts chic, comfy, and sweat resistant. If you live in New York City, you know that summer’s can get steamy, so sweat-wicking attire is a no-brainer. But, I totally get if you don’t always want to wear your leggings—that’s where the preppy tenniscore styles come into play, literally.

So, if you’re in the market for a cute outfit that gives off the illusion of having some serious court skills (even if you don’t!), look no further than some of my favorite tennis-inspired essentials, ahead.

FP Movement Easy Does It Dress

While this FP Movement dress is technically designed for working out, as it’s a polyester-elastane blend, you can easily wear it out and about this summer without ever breaking a sweat. It features a drawstring detail at the waist, elevating it above some other tennis dresses on the market, and an open back detail, allowing you to truly feel the rain on your skin and release your inhibitions. I picture this with cute, metallic Mary Janes for an unexpected outfit that’s certain to get you endless compliments.

Alo Yoga Grand Slam Tennis Skirt

A good tennis skirt will take you to the court, a hot girl walk with a friend, and even the club when paired with the right top. I love the pleats on this one, and there are built-in shorts so you can even stash your tennis ball; if you’re hitting the town, you can fit your keys, ID, chomp stick—I don’t judge.

Reformation Francesco Cotton Polo Sweater

Not only is this Reformation polo sweater super comfortable, but it also adds the perfect touch of tennis-player chic to any outfit. Dare I suggest wearing it over your shoulders? I’m also obsessed with the matching pleated mini skirt. BRB, buying this entire outfit.

Staud Court Cross-Court Two-Tone Mini Dress

While this dress from Staud may be a bit of a splurge, imagine how cute you’d look perched on the stands at Wimbledon or the US Open. It’s super comfortable and comes in two shades: green and white and black and white.
