What makes a drone show special? Here's what sets them apart from Fourth of July fireworks

Independence Day is this week so if you haven't made your plans, now is the time!

Collier County has a ton of great patriotic events to attend, from parades to parties.

Of course, most people want to end their Fourth of July festivities with a spectacular fireworks show. But this year, Collier is offering more than just fireworks.

For the first time, Collier County is hosting a drone show.

Here's the main differences between a drone show and a fireworks show that you should know.

What is a drone show?

A drone show is when a synchronized swarm of colorful drones create moving images in the sky.

The drones can create detailed pictures and scenes that some fireworks can't recreate such as red, white, and blue eagles, the Statue of Liberty, and a map of the United States.

The drones are preprogrammed to hit a coordinate in the air at a preset time. Each drone is numbered and corresponds to a node in the computer.

Drone shows are quieter than fireworks and pet friendly

Drone shows don't include explosive, noisy fireworks, making them suitable for children, pets, and those who suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder.

If you're looking for a fun, colorful night-time light display without the noise, a drone show is the way to go.

Drone shows are more environmentally friendly

Drones don't produce chemical and noise pollution like fireworks do.

They also don't litter the area with plastic casings or add toxic pollutants to the air and water.

Drones are reusable, making them more sustainable as well.

After more than a decade of advances in UAS technology, swarm drone light shows are becoming more sophisticated and carving out an audience once largely dominated by fireworks.
