All-male dance krewe, 610 Stompers looking for you to join their team
NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Do you have what it takes to join the all-male dance krewe, the 610 Stompers? Tryouts for ordinary men with extraordinary moves will be held on Saturday.
This is the first time in two years that tryouts will be held to become a 610 Stomper. The 610 Stompers are well-known throughout New Orleans. They dance in Mardi Gras parades, they are involved in community service fundraisers and they even danced in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City on several occasions.
“The parades are some of my favorite. You see all the families and people from out-of-town cheering,” said 610 Stomper Adam Griego, a.k.a. “8 Track.”
Hopefuls looking to put their dance moves to the test can try out on Saturday, Aug. 17, starting at 8:30 a.m. at Southport Hall in New Orleans.

Those auditioning will be taught a dance routine and they will perform the dance in front of an audience on the main stage.
“We are getting fresh blood in the organization. We accept the first 75 people who show up to try out that day,” Griego said.
Get there early, because only the first 75 will be able to audition for the first round. If selected, the final callbacks will be on Saturday, Aug. 24. They are looking for around 10 to 15 new guys to join the squad.
All men 21 and older are welcome to audition, and no dance experience is necessary. They aren’t looking for a Justin Timberlake or an Usher.
“We are looking for someone I’d say who has the desire and that needs to dance,” Griego said.
“Be yourself and dance. And the truth is, if you mess up, it doesn’t matter. Everyone’s rooting for you,” said 610 Stomper Louis Sabat, a.k.a. “The Beav.”
The public is invited to watch the tryouts at 12 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 17. Tickets are $10 at the door, and VIP tables are available. For more information, please e-mail [email protected]. This is a 21+ event.
