‘Mamie is the spice of life’: Muscle Shoals woman turns 104
MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. (WHNT) — Mamie Landsell celebrated turning 104 years young in style, with a casino themed birthday party matching her love of card games and slot machines.
Born in 1920, Landsell has lived through history from World War 2 to the first moon landing, along with 19 different presidents. This has never dulled her spirit.

“She is a fire pug,” Mamie’s son Dwight Landsell said. “You can imagine when she was younger, much more so.”
“Let me tell you, Mamie is the spice of life at Cypress Cove,” Cypress Cove Activity Director Amy Hill said. “She is, like, the boss.”
Mamie has been living her long life to the fullest and enjoying every moment, sharing that she has been happy nearly the entire time.
What’s her secret to such a fulfilling life?

“She tells me that she never lets anything get to her,” Hill said. “She says, ‘Amy, you’ve got to let it go and give it to God.'”
Mamie shared how she felt having such an outpouring of support at her party.
“Wonderful to know I love this many people and they love me,” Mamie said.
After being the 2-time champion of the Kentucky Derby Wheelchair races at Cypress Cove, Mamie is striving for more.
“What you gonna do?” Dwight Landsell said. “She said ride a bull.”
As an avid Alabama football fan, Mamie looks forward to the fall, full of both football games and rounds of bingo. Ensuring, though, that the bingo rounds never interfere with her chance to watch and cheer on The Tide.
