Man accused of making bomb threat at restaurant says he was referencing 'a bowel movement'
A man was taken into custody for making an alleged threat at a Willie’s Chicken Shack in New Orleans — but he claims it was all a case of miscommunication.
Arthur Posey, 30, was arrested on Tuesday night after he allegedly threatened to blow up the chicken chain restaurant, known for its large frozen daiquiris and honey butter biscuits. He got into a heated exchange with an employee of the fast-food chain, during which the manager took his threats of blowing the place up as credible and alerted the authorities, according to New Orleans news station WGNO.
Posey claims that when he said he was going to “blow the bathroom up,” he was talking about “a bowel movement.”
Now, the man faces two charges of communicating false information of planned arson. He is currently in custody at Orleans Justice Center.
The Times-Picayune reported that Posey entered the restaurant at 7 p.m. and asked an employee what time they would be closing. When she responded she didn’t know, Posey allegedly told the employee, “Y’all about to close right now because I’m going to get a bomb and blow this place up.”
According to a police report, another employee recounted that Posey “said he was going to get a bomb and put it under the middle table of the restaurant closest to the front door.”
Before a trial date is set, Posey will have a mental competency hearing, which is currently set for Nov. 29.
Many have come to the defense of Posey on social media.
I demand justice for Arthur Posey. Who here among us has not made the same threat and followed through on it? pic.twitter.com/Qw4QjUbWrm
