Man harasses department store employee for speaking Arabic: 'Go back to where you came from'
A man lambasted a department store employee for speaking Arabic, saying Arabs should “go back to where they came from.”
“I really walked into a Twitter video irl today,” tweeted a man named Ricky on Tuesday. “This man made two women cry after publicly humiliating them. Please help me find this awful guy’s information.”
Ricky is not sharing his last name for privacy reasons; however, he tells Yahoo Lifestyle that the male customer wearing glasses and a black-and-gray jacket got angry when an employee at a Dallas-based Macy’s couldn’t gift-wrap his purchase.
“He demanded they give him a box for free with his purchase, but the lady informed him it doesn’t come with one and that she could send him upstairs to have it wrapped, but he refused,” Ricky tells Yahoo Lifestyle. “No one really paid attention to him until he brought up ethnicity.”

A female customer wearing a striped sweater advocated for the employee in the Michael Kors department, and a manager wearing a red sweater stepped in.
“Leave the store. She already told you,” the woman in stripes said in the video. “There’s not a gift box for that. Leave! … You’re disrespecting her.”
The man threatened to call security on the shopper and wouldn’t leave the store without making his purchase. “I don’t need to do s***,” he said. Then, to the manager, “Get this woman out of my face … she’s interfering with my purchase. …
“Hey, I don’t speak Arabic,” he claimed. “They were speaking Arabic.”
A male witness wearing camouflage pants said, “Is this some kind of TV show going on right now? Because I can’t believe you’re going to sit here and talk to somebody because you don’t understand them. … They were talking to each other, right? Were they talking to you?”
“Yes — well, sort of,” the man answered, admitting that he didn’t know what the women actually said. “A bunch of Democrats … I’m in America, I want people to speak English to me. … All I asked was for her to speak English. …
“And get these customers away from me,” the man said to the spectators. “All the Arabs, all you Arabs and Democrats. Go back to where you came from … how many Arabs came out of the woodwork?”
When Ricky called him a “snowflake,” the man responded, “F*** you!” Ricky also tweeted that the man used homophobic slurs against him.
A few more details:
1. There was 10-12 diverse lovely people backing the woman up and showing kindness to the employees
2. When I confronted the guy for making the women cry, he shouted homophobic slurs, said to get out of his face bc he paid $300 and left— RICKY (@rickyy_____) December 26, 2018
“Overall, it wasn’t a pretty situation, but it truly made my day seeing a crowd of people, who are not shown in the video, stand up for what’s right,” Ricky tells Yahoo Lifestyle.
A Macy’s spokesperson tells Yahoo Lifestyle, “We believe our Macy’s employees and customers should be treated with dignity, respect and kindness. We aim to create a welcoming environment, and we apologize for what occurred in our store. We are investigating this incident.”
A spokesperson at the Dallas Police Department tells Yahoo Lifestyle that no police reports are on file.
