Man praises his wife's work as a nurse: 'Your nurse is probably putting her life on hold for you’
Being a nurse is a tough job; it requires countless sacrifices, including spending time away from family and friends. For Jason Reed’s wife, April Burton Reed, her job as a nurse kept her from celebrating Easter Sunday with her young son, Hudson. But April made sure to honor the holiday by creating an Easter egg hunt for Hudson one day early, and Jason shared his appreciation for that.
In a Facebook post he shared on Easter Saturday, Jason wrote a note to his wife to show both his gratitude for her and his acknowledgement of her strenuous work. Being a wife, mother, and nurse, April can’t be with her family on every holiday, but she certainly does try.
The message goes beyond just April and sheds light on the daily challenges all nurses face — namely taking care of their own families in addition to their patients.
Jason reminded his followers: “The next time you feel your nurse is not being fast enough for you, think of this. Your nurse is handling more than just your needs, too. Think of my wife, who is in the yard hiding and hunting eggs with a flashlight for our son so that she doesn’t miss out on another holiday. Your nurse is probably putting their life on hold for you, too.”
And it’s evident that nurses and those close to them are finding the post relatable; it’s received thousands of reactions and comments.
“This is all so true!!!” one person wrote. “I go through every holiday doing the same thing. Healthcare is hard to do but we do put our family lives on hold to take care of someone else’s family.”
Jason isn’t alone in encouraging those in his wife’s profession. “My girls are nurses and personal support workers,” a mom commented. “Always missing out on family events others take for granted. I’m proud of them and anyone in the healthcare field. You are an amazing group of individuals who try to balance it all.”
As for celebrating holidays, other nurses chimed in to share that April is one of many who works around her shift schedule by celebrating holidays before or after the fact.
“It takes huge sacrifice to answer the call to serve,” Jason said. “Remember to thank all those that do answer that call.”
