Antoine McDonald told WESH 2 News that he didn’t hesitate to intervene — not even long enough to remove his bunny mask — when he noticed a man and a woman scuffling on the ground during a night out with friends.
“I just rushed over there,” he said. “I didn’t even say, ‘Hey, look at this.’ No, I just rushed over there.”
In the video, the bunny later revealed to be Edwards is seen prying a man in a white T-shirt and jeans off a woman dressed in black. Lindsey Edwards, who filmed the fight, told the news station that right before the benevolent bunny stepped in, she saw the unidentified man spit on the woman he seemed to be attacking.
“With me trying to break up the fight, it led to him trying to get on top of her and hit her,” Edwards, who can be seen swinging wildly in the video, said of the melee. “So then I had to try different methods basically to break up the fight. Which actually worked.”
But police officers who responded to the scene were reportedly a bit skeptical of the spectacle, and thought it might have been staged.
“The officer came up to me and said, ‘Listen, if you do that again, I’m gonna arrest you and the d**n bunny suit,'” Edwards recalled. But, he said, the fight was “the real deal. Nothing fake.”
In the wake of the costumed caper, Edwards has become something of a celebrity. After the original video — which racked up almost 15,000 views before it was removed by Instagram for violating its community guidelines on violence — went viral, people began stopping Edwards on the street and asking to take photos with him in his Easter Bunny suit.
A spokesperson for the Orlando Police Department told Yahoo Lifestyle that no injuries were, no one was arrested, no parties involved expressed a desire to press charges. They also said the details of the dispute remain a mustery.
