Like Barbie, Margot Robbie is everything: an actress, a producer, a glam icon. However, for the 2024 Oscars the Australia native chose to...slightly remove herself from the character that's inspired so many of her iconic looks this awards season. Instead of rocking that unmistakable shade of pink, she chose a glittery black gown—taken straight from the Versace FW24 runway—with soft punk hair and makeup to match.

As is often the case with Barbie chatter (sorry Margot, you can't escape the comparisons yet), we'll start with the hair. Worn down in a middle part with messy, tousled waves, the actor declined a fresh bleach job, instead opting for dark-brown roots that somehow looked a little lighter just a night earlier when she attended the Chanel and Charles Finch-hosted pre-Oscars dinner. While some on the red carpet went for perfectly coiffed or slicked-back styles, not a hair on Robbie's hair was in place. Flyaways had their way, with her texturized strands doing exactly what they wanted (in only the chicest way, though—this hair has had media training).

Makeup artist Pati Dubroff and her kit of Chanel Beauty products were likely behind the rest of Robbie's glam. With her lips painted a light taupe-y brown, her cheeks featured just a touch of pink—it had to be there somewhere. The look was completed by a solid sweep of black top eyeliner and healthy dose of mascara. It was all very pretty and very Margot Robbie: not Barbie, not Tonya, not anyone else.

As for the nails, the star's manicurist Betina Goldstein quickly swapped her dark-eggplant manicure from the night before for a glossy, nude-taupe color that complimented the lipstick. Gone are the jelly shoe and doll finger-inspired short styles, these nails are medium-length and oval-shaped. Would Barbie approve? Who knows, and who really cares. This is Margot's night, and only she can decide what she was made (up) for.
