Margot Robbie Explains Why She Faked Her Death as a 'Dramatic Child'
Margot Robbie has always had a flair for the dramatic.
In an interview with BBC Radio 2 promoting Barbie, the Australian actress shared a story from her childhood, where she detailed faking her own death as a kid.
"We got a new babysitter and I wanted my old babysitter back, Talia, who was like 16 and I thought she was so cool," she explained. "We got this much older lady in and I was just not happy about it."
The Once Upon a Time in Hollywood star recalled that the new babysitter told her to go take a bath but Robbie refused.
"She was very cranky and I thought, 'I'm gonna show you.' And so I got a big kitchen knife and the ketchup and I sprawled out naked on the tiles, covered myself in ketchup, and put the kitchen knife [next to me]. I waited for like 45 minutes for her to find me," said Robbie.
The reporter asked Robbie if the woman "ran away screaming from the house," to which the 33-year-old responded, "Oh yeah."
"You produced your own death," quipped her Barbie co-star Ryan Gosling, who was seated next to her. Robbie then told them that she also practiced falling on the movie theater stairs at her local mall and it was so believable that people called an ambulance for her. "I guess I was a bit of a dramatic child," the I, Tonya star joked.
It's clear Robbie was destined to be an actress. She received her first role at 18 as Donna Freedman in Australian soap opera Neighbours, going on to receive two Academy Award nominations in 2018 and 2020.
