Mariah Carey's beauty secret: bathing in milk
Anyone who has watched Mariah Carey‘s 2002 episode of MTV’s Cribs will no doubt remember the singer pausing her home tour to take a bubble bath as cameras rolled.
Nearly two decades later, the pop star still loves her tub time — with a rather indulgent twist.
Carey, 48, shared her beauty secrets in a a new interview with the Guardian. Though she dismissed some of the more spectacular rumors of diva behavior — she’s “not a cat lady” who insists on being surrounded by kittens, and she thinks demanding that her hotel bathrooms have golden taps is too extravagant — the “Heartbreaker” singer did cop to a couple of luxuries.
According to Carey, it’s not true that she bathes only in French mineral water, as reports have claimed. But that doesn’t mean she settles for standard H2O.
“I bathe in milk,” she told interviewer Simon Hattenstone. “Yes, sometimes I use milk as a beauty treatment — I don’t want to give away all my secrets.”
Upon further interrogation, she revealed that the milk she uses is cold. And yes, if push comes to shove, she’s open to cracking open the Perrier too.
“I guess if there’s no clean water and I had to use mineral water, maybe I would,” she teased.
She may be onto something. Milk baths are thought to be nourishing and ideal for smooth skin, with lactic acid helping to exfoliate dry patches. Legend has it that Cleopatra bathed in donkey milk, and Queen Elizabeth I was also said to have enjoyed a dairy-rich dip.
And how’s this for convenience? In 2010, a British farmer claimed that his goats produced more milk when they were listening to Carey’s most festive hit, “All I Want for Christmas Is You.”
