Marie Kondo's Oscars Gown Sparks Joy
Arriving early on the Oscars red carpet was Marie Kondo, Japanese decluttering expert and star of Netflix's reality show Tidying Up With Marie Kondo. For her Academy Awards debut, Kondo wore a pretty full-length Jenny Packham pink v-neck dress made of delicate lace, adorned with dark pink and white sequined flowers, sporting a small train, and topped with short ruched sleeves. Kondo accessorized with tiny stud earrings.
According to Page Six, Kondo is attending the awards ceremony as a guest of Access Hollywood. In a video released by the show, Olympic figure skater Adam Rippon cheekily asked if she would want to do what he did last year: wear a leather harness. Unfortunately, it seems she declined.
Kondo's hit TV show followed her as she helped American families tidy up their homes. After her show debuted on January 1-the perfect time to inspire people to clear the decks-donations to Goodwill thrift stores spiked, a change that Goodwill's senior director of public relations, Lauren Lawson-Zilai, attributed at least in part to the popular show. Kondo originally rose to international renown as a tidying queen with bestselling book The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up in 2013.
Accompanying Kondo on the red carpet was her husband, Takumi Kawahara, who looked dapper in a navy suit with black lapels and a pink pocket square to match his wife's dress. Kawahara is also his wife's manager, and CEO of KonMari Media Inc. The pair married in 2012.
