Marine vet folds fallen American flag while driving for FedEx: 'Just doing what was right'
A Marine vet working as a FedEx driver in Maryland was caught on camera going above and beyond his job description.
When the unidentified man saw that a flagpole holding an American flag had fallen in Gail Cook’s front yard, he took the time to fold it and place it safely on the porch, as WBAL-TV 11 reports. He even folded a Baltimore Ravens flag that had also fallen.
Cook told WBAL-TV 11 that she was able to contact the driver after seeing his kind deed on her surveillance camera. He said he was “just doing what was right,” Cook told the local news channel.
American flag etiquette stipulates that the flag should never touch the ground, but Cook’s flagpole appeared to have fallen over in the wind. As a veteran, the FedEx driver knew the proper way to fold an American flag and neatly left both flags on a chair on Cook’s porch.
People found the video pretty heartwarming, pointing out that the driver showed real integrity.
“That’s how it should always be,” one person commented on Twitter.
