Mariska Hargitay and Dick Wolf
Mariska Hargitay clearly has as lot to celebrate with her Law & Order: SVU family.
The 60-year-old actress went out for a celebratory Sunday lunch this weekend to commemorate the start of SVU's 25th season on air—and who better to enjoy the moment with than the show's creator, Dick Wolf.
Hargitay, who has played Detective Olivia Benson on the hit police procedural since its inception in 1999, recently sat down for a toast with Wolf, 77, at a restaurant in Manhattan, New York, just over a week after SVU returned for the milestone season.
Wolf, the writer and producer behind the entire Law & Order franchise, smiled for a selfie with Hargitay in her new Instagram post, which featured some celebratory glasses of champagne on the table. Margitay's husband Peter Hermann, whom she met when he was a guest star on the show in 2002, was also in attendance for the special affair.
"Sunday family lunch," Hargitay captioned the post. "So very very much to celebrate." She also included the hashtags "SVU25" and "#Here'sTo25."
Fans of the show were quick to join in on the celebration in the comments, with tons of users congratulating both Hargitay and Wolf on the milestone, which further cemented the show's status as the longest-running primetime live-action series in U.S. history.
"25 seasons in of playing such a powerful character on one of the most popular shows is the highest achievement of all. Congrats ??," one of Hargitay's fans gushed in the comments.
"You are making history! Enjoy!" wrote another, while the official NBC Law & Order Instagram account called the selfie "beyond elite."
Season 25 returned on Jan. 18 after a long delay that resulted from WGA and SAG-AFTRA Hollywood strikes. New episodes air Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET on NBC.
