13 Going on 30 is simply an iconic American rom-com. The coming-of-age story includes the unforgettable Thriller routine, many quotable moments, that colorful Versace dress we all have wanted, and, of course, great on-screen chemistry between Matty (Mark Ruffalo) and Jenna (Jennifer Garner). But while Mark and Jennifer may have had a blast filming the memorable flick, apparently their friendship didn't continue on after the cameras stopped rolling.
During a 2014 episode of Andy Cohen's Watch What Happens Live, Mark was asked about the status of his friendship with Jennifer. It was then the Hulk actor revealed that he and Jennifer didn't really stay in touch after the movie dropped in 2004.
"We had a great time together, and I think we would, but then Ben [Affleck] came on the scene and that was the end of that," Mark explained. Andy then jokingly replied, "I heard he doesn't allow her to have male friends," before clarifying, “I made that up!"
It's important to note that even though Mark mentions Jennifer's relationship with Ben, who she reportedly first started seeing in 2004, he never commented further on the show why they lost touch.
In 2000, Mark married his wife, Sunrise Coigney, and together they have three kids — Keen, Odette and Bella. Meanwhile, Jennifer married Ben in 2005 and had kids Violet, Seraphina and Samuel with him. Jennifer and Ben divorced in 2018. Jennifer is reportedly seeing businessman John C. Miller, while Ben is making headlines for rekindling his previous romance with Jennifer Lopez.
Though Mark and Jennifer may have drifted apart, it looks as though they have reconnected. They're currently working together on the science-fiction flick The Adam Project. In the upcoming film, the duo portray the parents of the lead character, Adam, who is played by both Walker Scobell and Ryan Reynolds.
Mark tweeted earlier this year a reference to 13 Going on 30 while on the set of The Adam Project. It looks like the two have made their friendship Twitter official.
What's more, when Jennifer shared a fun Halloween clip on Instagram of two dancers doing the Thriller, she made sure to include her 13 Going on 30 costars Mark and Judy Greer in her caption.
"Hey @missjudygreer, hey @markruffalo— do we still have this in us? ????♀? #HappyHalloween!," Jennifer wrote.
In response, Mark wrote back: "They have far better rhythm than Matty ??????."
Based on this, it seems as though their friendship may have reignited. Hopefully, we'll see more 13 Going on 30 nostalgic posts from the two stars soon.
