Mark Wahlberg Is Frequently Tempted to Skip His 4 A.M. Workouts
Actor Mark Wahlberg is known, among other things, for his early-morning workouts. The actor and onetime musician frequently gives a look into his gym sessions, which begin at 4 a.m. every day, on his Instagram. Working up a sweat at 4 a.m. is tough for anyone, and Wahlberg himself admitted that it doesn't get any easier the longer he sticks to this routine.
Wahlberg opened up about the temptation to sleep in and skip his workouts in a Feb. 11 interview with People. "I feel it more often than you think," the 52-year-old said of his desire to stay in bed instead of get a good pump in. Once he gets to the gym, he doesn't have much of a choice to stay sleepy, as he begins his day with a 35-degree cold plunge. Needless to say, it jolts him awake.
"I'm like, ‘'Okay, I'm awake, I'm alive.' We're a go right after that," he explained of his process. "So I just go and I do the work."
Wahlberg believes his approach to early-morning exercise trickles down into every other aspect of his life.
"I don't want to miss something because if, God forbid, I kind of cut corners, don’t show up, don't put the work in and I don't get the results that I want, I know why. I don't want to live with that regret," he said. "I always feel better after and I just go and get it in.”
And if he isn't feeling it, instead of canceling his workout entirely, he'll do a modified version of what he planned to do. Then, he ends up surprising himself. "I start out sluggish and the next thing you know I've ramped it up to a 12 and I got the best workout that I've had in a long time," he said. "But the hard work that I've put in has always been a reason why I have success, so I attribute to that and my faith and the amount of effort that I've put into everything. So why would I do anything different?"
If you're struggling to get out of bed and go to the gym, just ask yourself: What would Marky Mark do?
