Mark Wahlberg Gets Honest About How Leaving California for Nevada Has Helped His Kids
Actor Mark Wahlberg revealed in 2022 that he moved his family from California to Nevada and was in the midst of working to make Las Vegas a new film and TV capital. In the time since then, his kids have adjusted to life in their new home state, and Wahlberg said it's been a tremendous boon for their lifestyles.
In a new interview with People magazine, Wahlberg explained how his children are benefiting from the move. "It's a place where my kids can thrive and do their thing and pursue their interests," he said. Wahlberg and his wife Rhea Durham have four children together: 20-year-old Ella, 17-year-old Michael, 15-year-old Brendan, and 14-year-old Grace. Ella is out of the house and attending college, but the teenagers are coming into themselves in new ways in a new state.
Wahlberg detailed how moving to Nevada was better for his children back in an October 2022 appearance on The Talk. While his move to the Golden State was for work, it didn't make much logistical sense to stay there.
"I want to be able to work from home. I moved to California many years ago to pursue acting and I’ve only made a couple of movies in the entire time that I was there," he said. "So, to be able to give my kids a better life and follow and pursue their dreams, whether it be my daughter as an equestrian, my son as a basketball player, my younger son as a golfer, this made a lot more sense for us."
It remains to be seen whether his fast-growing teenage children will stay in-state for college and beyond.
