Hollywood's gender pay gap may have met a new nadir with Ridley Scott's awards season favourite All The Money in the World

The film famously underwent last-minute reshoots in November after Kevin Spacey, who originally starred as oil tycoon J Paul Getty, was at the centre of dozens of sexual misconduct allegations.

Scott brought in Christopher Plummer to replace him – to critical success – but the switch meant that co-stars Michelle Williams and Mark Wahlberg also had to reshoot their scenes.

Now, a USA Today report claims that while Williams was paid $1,000 to re-do her scenes with Plummer, Wahlberg was paid $1.5 million – 1,500 times more than his female co-star.

The findings go against Scott's original statement to the media organisation. In January, the British director said his cast worked on the re-shoots for free: "Everyone did it for nothing”, Scott said. "I wouldn’t get paid, I refused to get paid. [The actors] all came in free. Christopher had to get paid. But Michelle, no.”

USA Today have since reported that Wahlberg's team actually negotiated a significant fee for his reshoots, but Williams wasn't told. Both Wahlberg and Williams are represented by the William Morris Endeavor Agency, who are yet to comment on the story.

In August, Wahlberg was named the highest-earning actor of the year by Forbes, who calculated his  pretax and pre-fee earnings at $68 million.  Emma Stone, the highest earning actress in the same period, pocketed $26 million.

Regarding the reshoots, Williams had previously said she'd been generous with her time: "I said I'd be wherever they needed me, whenever they needed me. And they could have my salary, they could have my holiday, whatever they wanted. Because I appreciated so much that they were making this massive effort."
