While it’s been well documented that the bottle green dress that Meghan Markle chose to wear for her first appearance as Prince Harry’s fiancee sold out within an hour, a week on and it’s been revealed that the newest addition to the Royal family has a similar effect on beauty sales.

Online beauty brand Memi has announced a 65 percent rise in sales of nude lipsticks since Markle appeared on TV last Monday. The future princess sported a taupe, nude hue, which is rumoured to have been Charlotte Tilbury’s Matte Revolution in Very Victoria, £24, on both public engagements. Memi has seen a spike in sales of its Matte Luxe Lipsticks, £12 each, in similar shades Tease Me and Quickie.

The Duchess of Cambridge has always opted for neutral make-up, from her subtle blusher to a pared-back manicure. A detail that, no doubt, won't have surpassed Markle as she learns the royal styling ropes. In past appearences- in her public role as an actress and philanthropist- Meghan switched between warm, flattering nude and bold red lip looks.

However, the royals aren't alone in their penchant for the soft, subtle shade. Nude lipstick was seen across the red carpets throughout the awards season earlier this year.

"You can really play up the eyes with a more neutral lip, and it’s a hell of a lot easier to maintain through the evening," explains make-up artist Fiona Stiles, whose regular clients include Amy Adams and Jennifer Garner. 'There isn’t the constant thought of, “Is my colour smeared?” or, “Do I have lipstick on my teeth?”' A consideration which is as paramount for an actress on the red carpet as a royal on walkabout. Now, those are both situations which Markle will be uniquely placed to empathise with.
