Martha Stewart's Gorgeous Collection of Real Estate: Photos

When it comes to home decor, cooking or anything lifestyle, Martha Stewart is the queen. But you have to have a good foundation to begin — and that’s exactly what she has in her collection of homes. We like to think she’s the doyenne of the New England aesthetic (thanks to her Maine home), but don’t ever think the home expert rests on her laurels.

Once you see her New York City home, you will see what we are talking about. It’s unexpected and modern — and so totally Martha all at once. While that may be our favorite place that she once owned, Stewart will tell you that her Maine residence is her coveted pièce de résistance. “I look at myself as the caretaker of an American treasure,” Stewart told Architectural Digest about Edsel Ford’s historic Skylands residence that she now cherishes as her own.

And if there’s one thing we know, the 79-year-old TV personality has no plans to slow down when it comes to work or her love of real estate. We wouldn’t be surprised if she added another one to the group — just because she needs another home decorating project.

Martha Stewart’s four-bedroom, one-and-a-half bathroom, childhood home doesn’t seem that cramped, but the truth is that she had five siblings and two parents living with her in Nutley, New Jersey. It’s no wonder she has more than one home now as an adult.

After spending some time as a stockbroker, Stewart dove headfirst into this Westport, Connecticut home with then-husband Andy Stewart in 1973. She not only restored much of the home herself, but she also launched a catering business from this location. And that’s how the seeds of the Stewart empire were planted.

Every wealthy New Yorker has to have a home in the Hamptons, so that’s exactly what she did after divorcing her husband in 1990. She enjoyed many summer seasons here until she sold the house earlier this year for $8.4 million.

This is where Stewart threw us for a loop with her decor in this West Village penthouse. It’s the perfect look city space — contemporary and modern— which she only kept for a few years, selling in 2004.

This property is quite famous because this is where Stewart spend her time under house arrest after her release from prison in 2005. The estate was the ideal place to tend to her chickens and ride her horses while she finished her sentence.

Edsel and Eleanor Ford, of the Ford Motor Company, built this sprawling compound, called Skylands, in 1925. Now Stewart is enjoying a slice of history as the current owner and it’s a far cry from her humble New Jersey beginnings. (Don’t miss the stunning photos at Architectural Digest.)
