Marvel Searches for Next X-Men Writer
Sources say that Marvel is ready to find writers for their open assignments now that the Writers Guild of America (WGA) has settled on a deal with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP).
Writer meetings will take place later this fall for the X-Men movie, with decisions on who will pen it to be announced at the top of 2024, as per Deadline.
This will be the first film for the franchise since 2019's X-Men: Dark Phoenix, which received a Rotten Tomatoes score of 22%, with critics calling it "a final farewell that rings like a death knell" and "leaves the franchise running on empty".
Can the franchise find a new lease of life? The animated series X-Men '97 will hit Disney+ early next year, continuing where the original series left off. Season one will consist of ten episodes, with a second season already in development.
SAG-AFTRA remains on strike for now, however, so even if Marvel finds their perfect writer(s) for the new X-Men project, they'll need to hope AMPTP will give the actors the fair deal they deserve before they can get on set.
