Here’s How *That* ‘Mary Poppins Returns’ Bathtub Scene Was Made

If you’ve seen Mary Poppins Returns, then you know a spoonful of sugar bubble bath can create a whole underwater world. But how did director Rob Marshall film the scene where Mary Poppins (Emily Blunt) disappears into a bathtub? Did she hide underwater? Was it just a really deep tub? Thankfully, Disney just answered our burning questions. 

In the new featurette Mary Poppins Returns: Making the Impossible Possible, we learn the simple yet genius way Marshall and his crew filmed the scene.

In the making-of video, Blunt can be seen sitting on the edge of the tub then sitting back into the water and sliding down a slide. So it wasn’t CGI or some elaborate set design build. Blunt was transported to the underwater bathtub world via a trusty waterslide.

We’ve got to hand it to you, Disney, that was pretty brilliant.
