Matt Damon on Trying to ‘Keep Up' With John Krasinski at the Gym
Matt Damon stopped by The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Tuesday evening, where he revealed that he’s been spending his days “trying to keep up” with fellow Boston native John Krasinski in the gym.
Damon and his wife, Luciana Barroso, live in the same apartment building as Krasinksi and his wife, Damon's Oppenheimer co-star Emily Blunt. The couples have been close since 2011, when Damon and Blunt led the underrated sci-fi romance The Adjustment Bureau. Damon and Krasinski shared the screen the following year in Gus Van Sant’s Promised Land.
“They’re more like family,” Damon told Colbert of Krasinski, Blunt, and their two daughters. “I don’t even think of them as friends,” he joked. “I see [Krasinksi] in the gym every morning, and I can’t get away from him.”
Damon then reported that, like all good brotherly relationships, he and Krasinski keep each other motivated to stay in shape. The Bourne Identity star, who’s no stranger to getting ripped for a role, then conceded Krasinski might have him beat.
“I just touched your bicep and it’s like a brick,” Colbert told Damon. “Are you getting ready for a role?”
“I’m just trying to keep up with John, is the truth,” Damon told his host. “John was getting in really good shape for this role—he’s doing this Guy Ritchie film (Fountain of Youth).”
But it doesn’t seem that Damon will make any Interstellar-style surprise appearance in Ritchie’s latest. As he tells it, he’s only exercising with Krasinksi because of his open schedule. “I just started training with him every morning, just cuz I didn’t have anything else do to,” Damon said.
Fountain of Youth, from Apple Studios, doesn’t yet have a release date. Krasinksi’s next directorial effort, the family fantasy IF, hits theaters on May 17. Krasinski and IF’s star, Ryan Reynolds, recently collaborated on a tongue-in-cheek Super Bowl ad which references Krasinski’s tenure on The Office.
