Matthew Perry Reveals Which Actor He’d Want to Play Him in a Movie About His Life
If his memoir is ever turned into a movie, Matthew Perry knows which actor he'd cast.
Matthew Perry knows the perfect actor that he would want to portray the younger version of himself—because he's already done it once.
While answering questions during a livestream from the Town Hall in New York City on Wednesday, the Friends alum revealed the actor who he'd cast as his younger self if his new book was ever turned into a movie, and he named none other than Hollywood heartthrob, Zac Efron.
"Well, Zac Efron did it once," the actor stated, per Yahoo News, in reference to the 2009 film 17 Again, in which Perry's character transports back into the body of his 17-year-old self, played by Efron.
But Perry said he would only have Efron play him during his younger years, and he would later take over the role himself.
"I would play me after the coma and after that horrible night, five months in the hospital, then I would take over the role, I guess," he stated on Wednesday, alluding to one of the near-death experiences he recounts in his recently-released memoir, Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing.
Perry recently opened up about the terrifying experience in a conversation with People, revealing that he found himself in critical condition after his colon burst from opioid overuse. He consequently spent two weeks in a coma and five months in the hospital, in addition to having to use a colostomy bag for nine months.
"The doctors told my family that I had a 2 percent chance to live," he recalled. "I was put on a thing called an ECMO machine, which does all the breathing for your heart and your lungs. And that's called a Hail Mary. No one survives that."

Perry, now 53, appears to still be reeling from the release of his book, which hit shelves on Tuesday, Nov. 1.
"It's touching the hearts of everybody," he said during Wednesday's livestream, where he also shared that he is currently 18 months sober and receives help with his addiction daily.
