Maurice Benard got candid about his latest battle with anxiety.

General Hospital star Maurice Benard has recently been open with fans about his current struggles with anxiety and mental health, and gave everyone another update on his latest episode of State of Mind.

Battling The Monster

Benard, who recently celebrated his birthday, opened the April 14, 2024 episode of his podcast by saying, “I’ve had another bout with Freddy Krueger this week.” The actor explained that “Freddy Krueger” is the name he gives the anxiety who “keeps wanting to take me down.”

“It’s a son of a bitch, man, what I go through,” Benard confided in his audience. He remembered the battle happening on a Tuesday, letting out a breath before continuing, “I’m going to read to you a little bit of what that was, and it goes something like this…”

Journaling

Benard revealed he’s taken up journaling, having only journaled about his experience for three weeks as of the time the episode was filmed. The actor went on to read his journal entry aloud word for word:

“Wow. It’s been an incredible couple days. Felt like I was in Hell, trapped in my own nightmare of thoughts. Your thoughts just control you and the fear is so painful. But what’s amazing is no matter what Hell you go through, it’s just a couple of days, you can pull through. Prayer, exercise, family, a little meditation, breathing — you can get through it and you feel stronger. Thank you again, Lord, for taking care of me. I love you.”

Benard used it as a segue for introducing his guest Preston Durnford, continuing, “My next guest gave me his book, which is amazing because it’s called The Epic Journal.”
