EKAD focuses its activities on Belek, Turkey, the largest nesting area in the Mediterranean, to protect and ensure continuity of two species of sea turtles native to the Mediterranean for 110 million years.
Every year, EKAD’s activities take place from May to September in Belek, where hundreds of university students from Turkey and around the world, alongside employees, customers, scholars, and friends of Mavi voluntarily join the efforts. Volunteers set up camp on the beaches, working every day to protect the mature female turtles’ eggs from external factors and help hatchlings climbing out of their nests to reach the water.
To date, approximately 2 million eggs laid on the Belek beaches have been protected and 1.3 million hatchlings were helped to make it to the sea. Approximately 2,700 people volunteered for camp duty, Mavi reported.
Customers who shop the collection become participants in the efforts to protect the turtles. For every T-shirt or bucket hat sold at $28 a piece, five baby sea turtles are adopted and Mavi contributes to the natural habitat.
The capsule products are available on Mavi’s website and in Mavi stores across Canada.
Mavi’s support for EKAD reaffirms the brand’s commitment to the environment. The brand All Blue collection prioritizes sustainably-sourced cotton, efficient wash processes and laser finishing technology.
