McDonald's New Adult Happy Meals Feature Iconic Throwback Toy
McDonald's famous Happy Meals aren't just for kids. The instantly recognizable red and yellow carton has been a staple of the fast food chain for decades, and recently, the company has created adult Happy Meals aimed to get Americans of all ages lining up at the drive-thru. For its latest iteration, McDonald's is bringing back some beloved Happy Meal toys from the 1980s.
DJ and comedian Kerwin Frost is the face of McDonald's latest adult Happy Meal. The Kerwin Frost Box launches in the U.S. and select global markets on Dec. 11 and is set to feature the McNugget Buddies, an adorable lineup of characters from the McDonald's universe. The meal comes with your choice of a Big Mac or 10-piece Chicken McNuggets, fries, a drink, and one of six collectible McNugget Buddy toys with interchangeable outfits.
Each of the little friends are inspired by Frost's childhood experiences and are designed to encourage buyers at any age to own their individuality. And just like the toys introduced in 1988, the McNugget Buddies today have a wide range of personalities and styles. One of them, for example, is a fashion designer who creates the other Buddies' clothes, and another works at McDonald's while chasing her dream of becoming a singer.
Teaming up with Frost to make something that appeals to everyone was a natural choice, according to McDonald's USA Chief Marketing and Customer Experience Officer Tariq Hassan. "We're excited to team up with Kerwin on this next take, as he brings his own childhood McDonald's memories to life through reimagined McDonald's characters, immersing our fans in the world of Frost Way," he said in a statement.
Frost, meanwhile, is thrilled that he gets to be a part of such an iconic fast food institution.
"I've loved McDonald's since I was a kid. I even had my own Ronald McDonald doll that I brought to picture day at school, and it was my dream to collect all the McNugget Buddies," Frost said honestly. "Now, coming up with my own special set of Buddies—each one representing different aspects of self-expression—it's unreal, a dream come true."
"I hope the Kerwin Frost Box will serve as a reminder for people to hone their creativity and not be afraid to show the world who they really are," he added.
The holidays are a great time to reminisce on being a kid again, so the new Frost meal is coming at the perfect moment.
