McDonald's Is Brewing Up New Espresso Drinks for $2
@McDonalds
Caramel macchiato? Vanilla cappuccino? Americano? Pumpkin spice latte? Sounds like the latest espresso varieties on a Starbucks menu, right? Wrong. These just happen to be a few of the new beverages available at McDonald's. The fast-food giant announced on Wednesday, September 6, that it was adding more specialty drinks, along with bottled frappe, to its McCafé menu for $2 for a limited time at participating locations.
In an effort to compete with other coffee chains such as Starbucks and Dunkin' Donuts, Mickey D's new and improved menu will feature recrafted lattes and mochas, and freshly ground espresso drinks made with nonfat milk and locally-sourced beans—for a fraction of the cost. Coffee lovers, rejoice! Instead of buying a caramel macchiato at Starbucks for almost $4, you can jump-start your mornings with the same small order at half the cost.
In a press release, the company described its flavor relaunch, characterizing the caramel macchiato as a "rich, dark-roast espresso served with whole or nonfat milk, mixed with sweet caramel syrup, and topped with ribbons of buttery caramel drizzle. Available hot or iced."
McDonald's will also be revamping their packaging, offering customers its latest java blends in different cups with a new logo. Similar to Starbucks, the color of the cups will also change based on the season.

Although the new flavors are already available at select restaurants, the bottled McCafé Frappé line is expected to hit supermarket shelves in 2018. The foam-covered beverage will come in three ready-to-drink flavors: caramel, vanilla, and mocha.
