Mean Girls Featurette Looks Back at Iconic 2004 Original

A new Mean Girls featurette is looking back at the impact of the hit comedy film.

Released in 2004, the original Mean Girls sees new student Cady Heron (Lindsay Lohan) attempt to rise up the ranks of a ruthless school hierarchy. “Over the years I’ve realized these characters and this story have had a much longer shelf life than anyone anticipated,” says director, writer and producer Tina Fey.

Its sequel, simply called Mean Girls, is a remake reimagining the concept for a new generation. Cady Heron is now played by Angourie Rice, who goes up against conniving school rulers The Plastics, headed up by Regina George (Reneé Rapp).

It’s just one of several featurettes shedding light on the film. The other, released last week, offers a closer look at the wider cast, which includes Auli’i Cravalho, Jaquel Spivey, Avantika, Bebe Wood, Christopher Briney, Jenna Fischer, Busy Philipps, Ashley Park, and Tina Fey herself.

Mean Girls opens in theaters January 12, 2024. See the first trailer and images from the Mean Girls remake.
