Will the Lindsay Lohan and the original Plastics return for the Mean Girls musical movie?
Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdams, Lacey Chabert and Amanda Seyfried starred as Cady, Regina, Gretchen and Karen, respectively, in the 2004 movie. Speaking to Entertainment Tonight in February of 2023, Seyfried revealed that she and her former costars—"all four of" them—are "100 percent into" being in the new movie, but noted at the time that she hadn't seen a script.
McAdams has also expressed interest in appearing in the musical film. However, she told Bustle in 2023, “I don’t see a way to shoehorn us in.” Though she added, “If Tina [Fey] can figure it out, I’m there, for sure.”
Will there be music in the new Mean Girls movie?
Yes! It is a musical, after all. The film is based on the stage musical Mean Girls, which opened on Broadway in 2018. The movie features music by Jeff Richmond (Fey's husband) with lyrics by Nell Benjamin.
Fey previously told Seth Meyers that the Broadway songs were adjusted for the film. "The songs are sounding, really more kind of pop. It's [a] fascinating process actually, because in Broadway everything has to play to the back of the house, and in movies you can kind of come back in and things can play really intimately," Fey explained. "We have a very cool directing team, a very cool choreographer."
