Medusa returning to Six Flags Great Adventure in 2022
Medusa is returning to Six Flags Great Adventure.
The Jackson thrill park announced Wednesday that the classic seven-loop ride — which made history in its 1999 debut as the first floorless, top-rail roller coaster in the world — will be back for the 2022 season.
Medusa was rebranded Bizarro in honor of the DC Comics character 10 years after its launch, but this year it will revert to its original form with a new color palette, logo and backstory.
Guests will no doubt notice other changes.
“Our largest range of enhancements in nearly five decades will focus on improving our guests’ experience through technology, innovation and renovation,” park president John Winkler said in a statement.
Along with the return of Medusa, additions to Six Flags Great Adventure are set to include:
The completion of the two-year renovation of the park’s Jr. Thrillseekers area.
Single-rider lines for Jersey Devil Coaster, El Toro, Nitro and Medusa.
Transition from the Flash Pass ride reservation system to the Q Smart mobile app, as well as an app feature allowing guests to add their park pass to their Google Play or Apple Wallet.
A new marquee on Route 537.
New family restrooms in the Adventure Alley area.
Volt electric vehicle charging stations in the theme park, water park and safari parking lots.
A fresh coat of paint on Batman The Ride.
The park announced in February that the El Toro wooden coaster was expected to reopen this spring.
Dining at the park will be bolstered by makeovers at Yum Yum Café and Granny's, and the addition of Fatburger to Adventure Alley.
The park also will present the inaugural Summer Vibes Festival July 16 to Aug. 14, which according to Wednesday’s announcement will offer “eye-popping spectacles, live entertainment and colorful curiosities."

The park’s Wild Safari area is welcoming three new giraffe calves, a new male rhinoceros and other baby animals.
The Wild Safari Drive-Thru Adventure will have a new streamable audio tour and an expanded, newly-paved, three-lane roadway. The park also will offer the VIP Giraffe Encounter Tour, with the opportunity to hand-feed giraffes and meet small exotic animals up-close.
The Wild Safari Drive-Thru Adventure opens March 19, followed by Six Flags Great Adventure on April 2.
