Meet the Full Cast of 'The Amazing Race 36'
The cast of 'The Amazing Race 36'
Across 35 seasons, The Amazing Race has traveled to countless cities, countries, and continents. But what if I were to tell you that, for the first time, season 36 will have The Amazing Race traveling through time?
That's because the upcoming season of the Emmy-winning reality show, despite being the 36th to air, was not the 36th to film. In the fall of 2022, following the airing of season 34, the travel series put another installment in the can. However, after the season filmed, the production team was informed by CBS that they would be airing 90-minute episodes of the show in fall 2023, due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes creating holes in the schedule.
That allowed The Amazing Race team to film another season in early 2023 with 90-minute episodes in mind. Legs were planned with more tasks, a record 13 number of teams participated, and twists from seasons past like the Express Pass and U-Turn returned. With CBS only guaranteeing the extended runtimes for the fall, the show decided to air the later season first, leaving the one filmed in 2022 in limbo.

The good news: That season has now materialized, and will be airing this spring as season 36. The great news: The Amazing Race will continue airing 90-minute episodes. The season will see an interesting mix of elements from both season 35 and the "COVID-era" seasons 33 and 34. For the second season in a row, we'll have 13 teams in the hunt for the $1 million prize. But the route is more truncated than we saw in the fall.
After starting the race in Mexico, the teams will travel to Colombia, Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, Barbados, and the Dominican Republic before returning stateside to finish the race in Philadelphia. Like seasons 33 and 34, both of which had to contain their usually sprawling travel due to the pandemic, the season 36 route is segmented to South America and the Caribbean. But there is still some new to be seen even 36 seasons in, as the race will see its debut visits to both the Dominican Republic and Barbados. Also like those two particular seasons, travel between cities and countries is provided by an in-house Amazing Race-branded charter plane.
