Meghan and Harry Attend Youth Challenge Reception
Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex is a vision in a bright yellow dress during her joint appearance with Prince Harry at the ‘Your Commonwealth’ Youth Challenge Reception in London's Marlborough House. The event is the "culmination of the Commonwealth's youth leadership workshop," according to Kensington Palace.
Today's look marks a bold departure from the Duchess of Sussex's neutral, cream, and blush pink dresses at recent public engagements. Despite the surprising change in color scheme, Markle looked stunning nonetheless in her knee-length sleeveless slip dress and pumps.
The dress is by Brandon Maxwell, according to Express' royal reporter Richard Palmer. Perhaps choosing an American designer is her subtle hat tip to her home country, which just celebrated Independence Day yesterday.
The look is a professional departure from the recent causal ensembles we saw Markle wear over the weekend for a polo match. The Duchess soaked up the sun in a Pretty Woman-esque gingham shirtdress and simple shirt-and-jeans combo for the events, but she was back to her royal wardrobe for her latest engagement.
Today's event is a testament to Markle's increased involvement with the Commonwealth as an official royal. Weeks ahead of their royal wedding, Prince Harry was appointed a Commonwealth Youth Ambassador by the Queen, and it was understood that his bride would join him in his new role.
Just last week, Markle joined Harry and the Queen in honoring remarkable young leaders across the Commonwealth during the Queen's Young Leaders Awards at Buckingham Palace.
During a speech, the Duke of Sussex told the honorees: "I, together with my wife Meghan, look forward to convening young people from around The Commonwealth to hear your ideas, work with you to build platforms for you to collaborate and form partnerships, as we travel around in our work," according to royal commentator Omid Scobie.
