When Meghan Markle's Parents Will Meet the Royals
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s families will finally meet in the same place at the same time-and it’s a much higher pressure situation than a typical gathering of the in-laws. Meghan Markle’s parents will meet key members of the royal family just one week before the couple ties the knot.
Kensington Palace announced Friday that Thomas Markle and Doria Ragland will arrive in the U.K. the week of the wedding. While they’re in the country, they will spend quality time with the Queen, Prince Philip, Prince Charles, Duchess Camilla, Prince William, and Duchess Kate. “Prince Harry and Ms. Markle are very much looking forward to welcoming Ms. Markle’s parents to Windsor for the wedding,” the palace said in a statement.
Thomas will walk Meghan down the aisle on the big day, while Doria will arrive at the church with her by car. It's unclear whether Meghan's half-siblings and other family members, who have spoken out against her in the press, have received invitations to attend.
Doria has met Harry on several occasions, including during the Invictus Games before their engagement. But Thomas may not have met Harry yet, let alone his royal relatives. In their interview after announcing their engagement, Meghan said “we’ve spent a lot of time with” her mother. “Her mum’s amazing,” Harry said. Meghan added that Harry had spoken to her father a few times, but “hasn’t been able to meet him just yet.” It’s unclear whether that has changed in the months since the big engagement.
