Meghan Markle Was Casually Chic in Jeans and a Button-Up for a Secret Engagement This Week

From Harper's BAZAAR

  • Earlier this week, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex visited the Luminary Bakery in London to help celebrate the opening of is new location.

  • She dressed casually for the low-key engagement, wearing a pair of jeans and a striped, button-up top for the visit.

Meghan Markle kept things casual this week during a visit to Luminary Bakery— a sustainable grassroots organization—in London.

The Duchess of Sussex shared a video from her under-the-radar engagement on Instagram Friday morning and revealed details of her visit, during which she celebrated the opening of the group's newest location, in Camden.

Meghan went for a laid-back yet chic ensemble, dressing in dark wash jeans and a striped button-up shirt. (The Daily Mail reports the top is available from With Nothing Underneath for £80, or about $103.) Meghan finished off the look with comfortable white sneakers and even donned an apron to help with some cake decorating herself.

During an intimate discussion with women at the bakery, Meghan opened up about her "hopes, fears and insecurities" and discussed the importance of patience and support among people.

“I was talking about this with someone the other day," she said during the discussion, according to The Telegraph. "We get into this habit of wanting things done immediately nowadays. There’s a culture of instant gratification, of the instant fix. But we aren’t mechanical objects that need to be fixed. You’re a wounded creature that needs to be healed, and that takes time. And that’s what I love about this place. It gives you the support to heal.”

Luminary's business model, explained in the caption of the video on Instagram, "opens its arms to women from vulnerable circumstances (be it abuse, poverty, trafficking, marginalization) and equips them with the job skills and confidence to succeed,” according to the caption of the Instagram video posted on the Sussex Royal account.

This isn't Meghan's first time working with the women of Luminary Bakery. The Duchess sat down with them at their flagship location earlier this year and was so inspired by the visit that she chose to feature the group as forces for change in the September issue of British Vogue, which she guest edited.
