Meghan Markle Could Make British Royal History
Following the news that Meghan Markle's father, Thomas, is unable to attend the royal wedding this weekend, Kensington Palace announced that Prince Charles would walk the bride down the aisle.
And although Prince Harry's dad will be escorting Meghan some of the way down the aisle, he won't be walking her the whole way. As Kensington Palace's statement revealed this morning, Prince Charles will "accompany her down the aisle of the Quire of St George's Chapel." Meaning that Meghan will walk a large part of the way on her own.
CNN is reporting that Meghan will walk much of the aisle on her own, in what they're calling "a striking feminist statement," and an "unprecedented step for a royal bride."
Rather than being escorted by her fiancé's father, Meghan will apparently "walk unescorted down the aisle of the chapel nave, after being met at the West Door by a member of the clergy. She will be accompanied in this first part of the wedding procession only by her bridesmaids and page boys, with the senior church figure walking ahead."
Prince Charles will meet her when she reaches the "Quire" in St. George's Chapel, which is where the wedding guests will be waiting for their first glimpse of the bride. And while the Prince of Wales will walk her to the altar, he will stand back as she joins her future husband, and will in no way "give her away" in the traditional sense.
CNN notes that "No other royal bride in the UK has walked unescorted down the aisle at their wedding ceremony." If this is, indeed, how Meghan intends to walk down the aisle tomorrow, then she may just making history.
