  • Meghan Markle reportedly “felt sorry” for Kate Middleton after she took photos with her children hours after they were born.

  • Meghan and Prince Harry are opting out of the tradition and keeping the birth of their baby private at first.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are going to have their first child any day now, and those who’ve been keeping up with the Sussexes know that Meghan has been doing this royal pregnancy her way. Meghan had a baby shower when it’s not royal protocol, she might have a home birth, and she is also apparently going to make her own baby food, which doesn’t break any royal rules, but I also don’t think that it’s something that royals tend to do either.

And another way that Meghan and Harry are saying “lol, no thanks” to royal traditions is that they’re keeping the birth of their first child private at first. The Palace released a statement a couple of weeks ago saying, “Their Royal Highnesses have taken a personal decision to keep the plans around the arrival of their baby private. The Duke and Duchess look forward to sharing the exciting news with everyone once they have had an opportunity to celebrate privately as a new family.”

Part of what this statement translates to is that Meghan is opting out of the post-birth photo call tradition that Princess Diana, Kate Middleton, and Sarah Ferguson have all been part of, getting made up and dressed for photographers outside the Lindo Wing right after giving birth to a baby royal.

It’s totally understandable that Megan has no desire to have hundreds of photos taken of her after she literally pushes another human out of her body, but it seems like there’s another reason why Meg is declining the photo op. A friend of Meghan’s recently told Page Six that Meghan “felt sorry” for Kate that she had to face the media in full glam - including heels! - hours after giving birth.

To be fair, it’s a little different for Kate, as her children are in a more direct line to the throne and will likely lead England’s monarchy one day. Because of this, they are going to be public figures whether they like it or not, whereas Meghan and Harry’s child probably won’t ever be on the throne and doesn’t need to win over England’s people from day one.

Still, pretty sure I’m with Meghan on this one - getting glammed up and having to do a photo shoot hours after giving birth sounds pretty horrible!
