Meghan Markle Gives Birth to a Baby Girl!
Archie is officially a big brother! The Duchess of Sussex gave birth to a little girl on Friday, Meghan and Harry have announced. A statement confirming the happy news was released by a spokesperson for the couple today.
"It is with great joy that Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, welcome their daughter, Lilibet 'Lili' Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, to the world. Lili was born on Friday, June 4 at 11:40 a.m. in the trusted care of the doctors and staff at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara, CA," reads an official announcement.
Both mother and baby are reportedly in good health following the delivery, and the little girl weighs in at 7 lbs 11 oz.
Per the statement released by the couple, Lili is named for both her great-grandmother Queen Elizabeth, and for her late grandmother, Princess Diana: "Lili is named after her great-grandmother, Her Majesty The Queen, whose family nickname is Lilibet. Her middle name, Diana, was chosen to honor her beloved late grandmother, The Princess of Wales."
Harry and Meghan's announcement also included a message of thanks, which read, "The Duke and Duchess thank you for your warm wishes and prayers as they enjoy this special time as a family."
The Sussexes' second child is now eighth in line to the British throne, just after her brother Archie. Her birth bumps Prince Andrew (and everyone else) down a spot. The new royal baby also marks the fifth grandchild of Prince Charles, and the eleventh great-grandchild for Queen Elizabeth.
