Update: It’s a boy! Click here for the birth announcement.
The royal baby is almost here because the Duchess of Sussex is in labor!
On Monday, Buckingham Palace announced that Meghan Markle will imminently give birth to her first child with Prince Harry. The duchess is said to have gone into labor in the early hours of May 6, with Prince Harry by her side.

Unfortunately, that doesn’t mean the public will get a glimpse of the infant just yet. A spokesperson said in early April that Harry and Meghan “have taken a personal decision to keep the plans around the arrival of their baby private. The Duke and Duchess look forward to sharing the exciting news with everyone once they have had an opportunity to celebrate privately as a new family.”
This plan is drastically different than what the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have done with each of their children — Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. Hours after Kate Middleton gave birth at the Lindo Wing in London, she’d walk out with Prince William and their newborn for a photo opportunity with the press before driving home.
However, that doesn’t mean a picture of Harry and Meghan’s newborn isn’t coming at all. Daily Mail royal correspondent Rebecca English reports that Their Royal Highnesses will wait two days and then invite photographers to Windsor (Meghan and Harry recently relocated from Kensington Palace to Frogmore Cottage).
