Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton Had Secret Wedding Drama
Over the past few days, royal correspondents have come out and said it: according to sources, Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton did not end up becoming best friends just because they're sister-in-laws. In reality, they are "simply very different people," as the Daily Mail's correspondent Rebecca English summed it, and there has been tension in the past between them. The Daily Telegraph now has specifics on one instance in which their relationship was strained.
The outlet's reporter Camilla Tominey (who broke the news of Meghan and Harry's relationship, the Daily Beast pointed out) wrote that the two duchesses had some royal wedding drama ahead of Meghan's nuptials to Harry in May. She wrote, via Daily Beast, that the outlet had “spoken to two separate sources who claim Kate was left in tears following a bridesmaids dress fitting for Princess Charlotte.”
A source told Tominey that “Kate had only just given birth to Prince Louis and was feeling quite emotional.” Specifics beyond that weren't given, but anyone who's been in a wedding can attest they're stressful and don't always bring out the best in people.
Another source told the Telegraph that the two women have very different temperaments too. “They are very different women, despite their similar circumstances," one source said, via Express. “Meghan is extrovert, whereas Kate is quite shy.”
But as multiple reporters pointed out this weekend, Kate and Meghan really didn't have a falling out. Vanity Fair's Katie Nicholl echoed that yesterday, writing that Harry and William's strained relationship played a much bigger factor in Harry and Meghan's decision to move to Windsor's Frogmore Cottage.
“Kate and Meghan are very different people and they don’t have a lot in common but they have made an effort to get along,” a source told Nicholl. “Any issues are between the brothers.”
A mutual friend of the princes told Nicholl that some tension there started last holiday. “Harry felt William wasn’t rolling out the red carpet for Meghan and told him so," the source said of William's efforts to welcome Meghan into the royal family. "They had a bit of a fall out which was only resolved when Charles stepped in and asked William to make an effort. That’s when the Cambridges invited the Sussexes to spend Christmas with them.”
