Meghan Markle stuns in $2,450 LBD at her first royal red carpet
Former actor and current royal Meghan Markle has walked a few red carpets in her time, but today marks her first as a member of the royal family. The European premiere of the Lion King on Sunday is the first red carpet for the couple since she Prince Harry wed.
And the new mom to Archie turned up the Hollywood glamour – tastefully, of course – in a midi-length black dress with illusion sleeves and neckline by Jason Wu. The “mesh panel flare dress” is still available on Farfetch for $2,450.
She eschewed her normal messy bun for a sleek, low bun that may have been a nod to another former actress who married into royalty – Grace Kelly.
The rest of her look was also classic and restrained, with diamond and black enamel earrings, a $2,300 black satin Gucci clutch and black slingback shoes.
For her face the duchess went with her favorite smoky eye and a pinkish nude lip.
News that Harry would be attending the Lion King premiere broke in late June.
"Prince Harry will attend the Euro premiere of @disneylionking on July 14, which is being held in support of his conservation work through The Royal Foundation.@WaltDisneyCo have also announced #ProtectThePride, a campaign to protect the dwindling lion population across Africa," royal reporter Omid Scobie wrote on Twitter on June 28.
Speculation that the Duchess would join him on the red carpet began almost immediately, and was apparently on the money.
The prince also kept his look classic, sporting a black tuxedo with a sharp bowtie and black oxford shoes.
The couple have been busy lately, with the birth of Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor at 5:26am on May 6, 2019.
The world was given its first glimpse of Meghan and Harry’s first child two days after his birth, during a brief photocall in St George’s Hall at Windsor Castle.
