Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have revealed the next steps of their plan to step down as senior royals.
In an official post on the Sussex Royal website, the duke and duchess announced that they "will continue to require effective security to protect them and their son."
The changes come into effect on March 31, 2020.
Duchess Meghan and Prince Harry have a plethora of changes ahead in 2020.
The Sussexes have shared an extended statement on their official website, which details what's next for the couple and their son. Their decision to step down as senior members of the British royal family will see Meghan and Harry move into new roles, and live more private lives.
Despite the many changes that the couple will make, they've revealed on their official website that their family will still require security. While it's not clear who will provide the security, Meghan and Harry explained why there is still a need. They wrote, "It is agreed that The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will continue to require effective security to protect them and their son. This is based on The Duke’s public profile by virtue of being born into The Royal Family, his military service, the Duchess’ own independent profile, and the shared threat and risk level documented specifically over the last few years. No further details can be shared as this is classified information for safety reasons."
The couple also elaborated on their decision to step back as senior royals. Their statement explained, "The Royal Family respect and understand the wish of The Duke and Duchess of Sussex to live a more independent life as a family, by removing the supposed ‘public interest’ justification for media intrusion into their lives."
